1. Eugenia congolensis De Wildeman & T.Durand View in CoL in Durand & Wildeman (1899: 124).
Type:— CONGO (BRAZZAVILLE). Brazzaville. Bords du Congo, Rive Français au nord du Stanley Pool, 13 February 1896 (fl.), A. Dewèvre 719 (holotype BR! [BR0000008990792]).
Distribution:—In Congo (Brazzaville) collected from Brazzaville and Kouilou departments and two specimens without locality, suggesting the species could be more widespread. The species is also found in Angola, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Gabon.
Habitat and ecology:—Riverine forests, between rocks; up to 1500 m elevation in neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo ( Boutique 1968).
Notes:—A distinguishing character for this species are the numerous and conspicuous pellucid dots on the under surface of the leaves.
Specimens examined:—Kouilou. Route Sounda – Kakamoeka, embranchement S.F.N. pour Kibangou (Pointe-Noire), 5 February 1966 (fl.), C. Farron 4997 (P! [P05261767]). Without locality. 3 May 1950 (fl.), J. Koechlin 1114 (P! [P05258133]) & October 1958 (fl.), J. Koechlin 5295 (P! [P05258132]).
