Description. Habitus as in Fig. 147 . Identical to L. finalis except for details of male genitalia ( Figs. 170–173 ): anterior section of surstylus with dark, rectangular, and strongly sclerotized anterolateral corner (best appreciated in ventral view; surstylus in L. finalis rounded, neither darker nor more strongly sclerotized anterolaterally); anterior process of surstylus without darker, bare, lateral ridge near apex (present in L. finalis ). Postgonite as in Fig. 202 . Mid tibia as in Fig. 26 . Female terminalia as in Figs. 174–176 .

Etymology. The name alludes to the fact that this is the New World sibling species of L. finalis .

Distribution (Map 5). Transcontinental in Canada and the northern U.S., south to New Hampshire, southern Ontario, southern Wyoming and northern California. In the west this is by far the most common species of the L. fontinalis group, in the east it is approximately as common as L. kanata sp.n.

Discussion. The Holarctic L. finalis and the Nearctic L. neofinalis sp.n. are obvious sister species. The conspicuous, dark and strongly sclerotized, anterolateral corner of the surstylus immediately separates the male of L. neofinalis sp.n. from all other species in the L. fontinalis group. Females cannot be distinguished from L. finalis . Characters that separate females of this species pair from L. parafinalis are discussed under that species.
