Kinrentius catuaba sp. nov.
( Figures 1–3 View FIGURES 1–6 , 7–16 View FIGURES 7–16 )
Type locality. Fazenda Experimental Catuaba , Senador Guiomard, Acre State, Brazil .
Diagnosis. Male pygofer posterior margin with a long acute posterior process (PP); ventral margin with multidentate anteroventral (AVP) and posteroventral (PVP) processes, with several small dentiform projections between them ( Figs 8–10 View FIGURES 7–16 ). Aedeagus weakly constricted sub-basally; dorsal surface with short median keel at apical half; well-developed dorsal projection forming a distinct process at mid-length ( Figs 14, 15 View FIGURES 7–16 ); paired apical processes, in lateral view, each strongly expanded, with anterior margin broadly rounded, posterior margin irregularly serrated ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 7–16 ).
Length. 8.75–9.45 mm.
Coloration. Head yellow, with light brown irregular maculae; pair of dark brown maculae on posterior margin; coronal suture dark brown( Figs 1, 2 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Face with frontoclypeus brown laterally and light brown medially, with irregular dark brown maculae on ventral half; gena and lorum light brown with dark brown maculae ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Pronotum and mesonotum yellow with irregular maculae and fine transverse stripes, dark brown ( Figs 1, 2 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Forewing yellow, with dark brown irregular maculae over the entire surface; costal margin brown basally ( Figs 1, 2 View FIGURES 1–6 , 7 View FIGURES 7–16 ).
External morphology. Distance between ocellus and eye subequal to diameter of ocellus ( Figs 1, 3 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Clypellus lateral margins somewhat parallel ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Protibia row AD with 4 robust macrosetae. Other characters as in the generic description in Wei et al. (2010).
Male genitalia. Pygofer, in lateral view, subquadrangular, length slightly greater than height; posterodorsal angle acutely rounded; posterior margin with an internally curved acute posterior process (PP); ventral margin with two multidentate processes: posteroventral (PVP) longer than anteroventral (AVP) one, with several small dentiform projections between them ( Figs 8–10 View FIGURES 7–16 ). Style with few fine setae on preapical lobe; apex sclerotized, acuminate, curved ventrally ( Figs 12, 13 View FIGURES 7–16 ). Aedeagus weakly constricted sub-basally; lateral shelf-like area relatively long; dorsal surface with short keel at apical half; well-developed dorsal projection forming a distinct process at midlength ( Figs 14, 15 View FIGURES 7–16 ); paired apical processes, in lateral view, each strongly expanded, with anterior margin broadly rounded and posterior margin irregularly serrated ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 7–16 ).
Female terminalia. Female unknown.
Etymology. The new species is named after the type-locality, Fazenda Experimental Catuaba, Brazil. The epithet is in apposition to the generic name.
Notes: K. catuaba sp. nov. is similar to K. bispinosus and K. peruvianus sp. nov. in sharing paired anteroventral (AVP) and posteroventral (PVP) processes on the ventral margin of the male pygofer. However, the new species can be distinguished by the multidentate antero- and posteroventral processes ( Figs 8–10 View FIGURES 7–16 ), presence of short dentiform projections between ventral processes ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7–16 ), and aedeagus with well-developed dorsal projection forming a distinct spine at mid-length ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 7–16 ).
