Distribution. Estonia, northern European part of Russia ( Negrobov & Naglis 2016), Sweden ( Hedgren 2003, Persson et al. 2019) and Czech Republic (present paper).

Status in CZ. The first records are given herein.

Ecology. Like most other members of the M. signaticornis –pinicola species group, this species appears to be confined to coniferous trees. Based on new records, it seems to prefer semi-shady sites and older logs (after or at very late phase of infestation by bark beetles).

Remarks. The Czech specimens examined are clearly variable in the colouration of the antennae, ranging from entirely dark to distinctly bicolorous, with a reddish scape. Similar variation was also described for the Nearctic specimens of M. apicalis by Bickel (1985).
