Medetera veles Loew, 1850

Distribution. Holarctic species, in Europe known from Belgium, Finland, Great Britain, Norway and Sweden.

Status in CZ. Medetera veles was listed by Pollet & Suvák (2009), based on one single record of M. bilineata Frey, 1915 by Olejníček & Barták (2000), as the latter species was treated as a synonym of M. veles at that time (see Remarks under M. bilineata ). It is most likely that the record of M. veles by Negrobov & Naglis (2016) is merely based on this synonymy and thus erroneous, despite the reinstatement of M. bilineata as valid species by the same authors. We are not aware of any reliable records of this species from the Czech Republic and, as a result, M. veles must be removed from the Czech checklist.

Remarks. The species reported as M. veles from Slovakia by Pollet (2009) represents a species different from M. bilineata but which the identity is still uncertain and currently under investigation (M. Pollet et al., in prep.).
