Medetera bilineata Frey, 1915 View in CoL
Material examined. Bohemia: Dobřany (6345), Šlovický vrch, 46°39′45″N 13°18′53″E, sweeping low sparse vegetation on pasture, 350–400 m, 14.v.2022, 1 ♁ ( MCH) GoogleMaps . Oprechtice (6544), 49°25′35″N 13°2′21″E, 475–500 m, clay/stony path near former sandpit, 7.viii.2021, 3 ♁♁ ( MCH) GoogleMaps .
Distribution. Czech Republic, Finland, Kazakhstan and Russia.
Status in CZ. Previously recorded only from Bílina-Duchcov ( Olejníček & Barták 2000). The relevant material was not available for study (absent in both NMPC and CZUP), however, the presence of M. bilineata in CZ is confirmed by the new records given above.
Ecology. All four specimens examined were found in open habitats on the soil surface ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ).
Remarks. The Palaearctic Medetera bilineata has long been considered a junior synonym of the Nearctic M. veles Loew, 1850 ( Bickel 1985) , but has been reinstated as a valid species by Negrobov & Naglis (2016). We agree with its current status as a valid species based on detailed but distinct differences in the male hypopygium between both species.
