Medetera flavipes Meigen, 1824 View in CoL
Distribution. Western Palaearctic species, widespread in Europe (except Scandinavia) and known also from Algeria, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Status in CZ. Previously recorded from both Bohemia and Moravia: Raná, Valtice ( Olejníček 1982), and Lednice ( Vaňhara 1981). The relevant specimens from Raná (15.viii.1962, J. Hodek lgt.) and Valtice (various dates within years 1973–1977, J. Olejníček leg.) are deposited in NMPC and all proved misidentified and belong to M. diadema . Actually J. Olejníček was aware of his mistake, as the specimens from Valtice were mostly placed under a M. diadema label in his collection, and later recorded as this species ( Olejníček 1998, without comment). The remaining record from Lednice (Horní les, 1971/1972, 2 ♀♀) is dubious, considering the above mentioned mistakes by J. Olejníček; his name is given by Vaňhara (1981, page 4) in a list of taxonomic experts who helped with material identification. These specimens were not available for study (deposited probably in MZMC). Consequently, the occurrence of M. flavipes in the Czech Republic is not unlikely (see distribution), but should be confirmed by new records.
Remarks. For correction of comments on M. flavipes by Pollet & Suvák (2009), see Remarks under M. insignis Girschner, 1888 (below).
