Distribution. Widely distributed in northern and central Europe; also reported from Portugal ( Pollet et al. 2019).
Status in CZ. Previously recorded only from Babice nad Svitavou in southern Moravia, based on a single male specimen identified by O. Negrobov ( Olejníček & Rozkošný 1978). The relevant specimen (15.vii.1969, R. Rozkošný lgt.) is possibly deposited in MZMC (not available for study). The first records from Bohemia are presented herein.
Ecology. In Belgium, M. jugalis is mainly collected on trunks of poplar trees, in particular in humid biotopes.
Remarks. The male of this species is unequivocally recognized by the shape of its hypandrium with a ovoid terminal enlargement with a deep apical incision and bearing a small ventral spine at the bottom of this incision ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 5–10. 5–8 , marked by arrow). Surprisingly, this rather distinctive character is not mentioned in the identification key by Negrobov & Naglis (2016), despite a previous note by the same authors ( Naglis & Negrobov 2014, page 240).
