Remarks
Mycotretus distinguendus was described by Arrow (1909) based on individuals first identified by Gorham (1888) as M. sobrinus Guérin-Méneville ( Fig. 22F View Fig ). According to Arrow (1909: 196) “The Mexican form recorded as Mycotretus sobrinus, Guer. , by Mr. Gorham in the same work must similarly be distinguished from that Brazilian species. It is much smaller, relatively shorter, the knees blacker, and the abdominal lines more marked. It may be called M. distinguendus ”. We compared the male genitalia of both M. distinguendus and M. sobrinus and observed that they are clearly separated species. We also noted that M. distinguendus differs from other Mycotretus in having the first antennomere of the antennal club conspicuously wider than succeeding antennomeres.
