Material examined. Type material: Syntypes of Lumbriconereis flabellicola ( MNHN A162), Moroc, 3231’ N 11°44’ W, 450–600 m, associated with Flabellum pavoninum var. distinctum ( Flabellum chunii fide Zibrowius et al., 1975 ) R/V Prsident Thodore Tissier, Station 65, 23 December 1933, 3 specimens. Non-type material: Same data as for syntypes, 1 specimen ( MNHN A445); Lion Bank, 35°15.4’ N 15° 34.6 W, 625–630 m, associated with Balanophyllia cellulosa Duncan, 1873 , R/V Noroit, cruise Seamount 1, DW63164-8, 0 8 October 1987, 2 specimens ( MNHN); Gorringe Bank, 36º28.5’ N 19º37.1’ W, 470–485 m, associated with Flabellum chunii Marenzeller, 1904 , R/V Noroit, cruise Seamount, DW8, 22 September 1987, 9 specimens ( MNHN).

Description. Prostomium conical, slightly longer than wide, with pair of nuchal organs, ventrally with well developed buccal lips. Peristomium shorter than prostomium, first ring slightly longer than second. All parapodia well developed, first six smaller than following. Prechaetal lobe inconspicuous, rounded in all parapodia; postchaetal lobes well developed, digitiform in all parapodia, always longer than prechaetal lobes (2:1), more developed in parapodia 9–28 ( Figures 4 View FIGURE 4 E–F). All parapodia with small, globular notopodia, with notoaciculae. Simple multidentate hooded hooks from chaetiger 1, in anterior parapodia with up to 8 teeth, all of similar size ( Figure 4 View FIGURE 4 G); in median and posterior parapodia with up to 6 teeth, with proximal tooth largest, crenulated ( Figures 4 View FIGURE 4 H); dorsal limbate chaetae in chaetigers 1–28, ventral limbate chaetae in chaetigers 1–15. Aciculae yellow, aristate, up to two per parapodium. Mandible translucent, slightly divided posteriorly. Maxillary apparatus with four pairs of maxillae ( Figure 4 View FIGURE 4 I); maxillary carriers black, shorter than MI, joined along base of MI. MI forceps-like, with attachment lamella. MII as long as MI, with ligament, with five teeth; with narrow attachment lamella along 1/3 of posterior lateral edge. MIII unidentate, with whitish central area, attachment lamella wide along 1/4 of posterior lateral edge. MIV unidentate plate, with whitish central area.

Remarks. This species was originally described as a member of Lumbrineris (= Lumbriconereis , spelling variant), but it has a very different architecture of the jaw apparatus (see above) and lacks composite multidentate hooded hooks. Miura and Shirayama (1992) recorded this species from Japan; herein, this record is considered as doubtful.

Distributio n. From off southern Ireland to Western Africa, associated with several different species of deep-water corals.
