Derivation of name: In memory of Maria da Conceição Cunha for her contribution to the knowledge of non-marine ostracods of Brazil.

Type-species: Macunhaella posteroaltis sp. nov.

Stratigraphic and geographic distribution: Aptian, Crato Formation, Santana Group, Araripe Basin, Crato Municipality, Ceará State, Brazil ( Guzmán et al. 2022, 2023; this study).

Diagnosis: A new genus of Cyprididae with a sub-rectangular carapace, greater height in the posterior region and obtuse cardinal angles.

Description: Carapace sub-rectangular in lateral view; fusiform in dorsal view. Ventral margin straight; dorsal margin straight and slightly sloping towards the anterior region. Posterior region higher than anterior. Anterior and posterior cardinal angles obtuse.

Remarks: The new genus Macunhaella has a higher posterior region, which makes it different from other representatives of the Cyprididae family, and this is its most evident distinctive feature. This is a typical characteristic of representatives of the Darwinuloidea superfamily, however, the individuals of Macunhaella gen. nov. have carapaces with a fusiform outline in dorsal view, greater median width and are narrower than any genera within Darwinuloidea, in addition to presenting a different pattern of adductor muscle scar than that described for this superfamily ( Fig. 4J View FIGURE 4 ). The genus Paracypridea Swain, 1946 , also has the same features as the new genus Macunhaella but differs significantly from it by displaying a rostrum in the anteroventral region of the carapace.
