TRIBE BELLULIINI Fibiger , new tribe
Type genus: Bellulia , new genus.
Taxonomic notes. The Belluliini , new tribe, comprises only the genus, Bellulia , new genus, with 16 new species. Although the Belluliini is the sister group to the Medialini , new tribe, the male and female genitalia of Bellulia are structurally considered to be the most primitive genus in the Belluliinae . The descriptions below reflect the phylogenetic sequence of the species. It is possible to recognise a Bellulia species from other Micronoctuidae by external characteristics, but the identification of the species always requires a careful examination of the genitalia.
Diagnosis. Character states of the tribe Belluliini are described under Bellulia , the only included genus.
Differential diagnosis. Belluliini species differ from those of Medialini in the yellow reniform stigma; in the Medialini the reniform is whitish. In the male genitalia of Belluliini the tegumen has processes; the sacculus is asymmetrical; and the ampulla is narrowest medially.
Distribution. Tropical and subtropical areas of the northern SE Asian and E Asian regions.
