Redescription. Length 9.3–11.9 mm, width 5.7–7.5 mm. General color ( Figs 54A–54C View FIGURE 54 ) black or blackish brown; antennae yellow; elytra entirely metallic blue or green. Antennae filiform in males ( Fig. 55A View FIGURE 55 ), antennomeres IV longest, VI–IX slender, length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.6: 1.0: 1.4: 1.2: 1.2: 1.2: 1.1: 1.0: 0.9: 1.0, length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 2.3: 1.6: 2.5: 3.4: 3.2: 3.1: 3.1: 3.1: 3.0: 3.0: 3.6; similar in females ( Fig. 55B View FIGURE 55 ), length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.6: 1.0: 1.4: 1.2: 1.1: 1.1: 1.0: 0.9: 0.9: 1.1, length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 2.5: 2.0: 2.8: 3.7: 3.2: 3.1: 2.9: 2.9: 2.7: 2.8: 3.6. Pronotum transverse, 2.2 wider than long, disc convex, with reticulate microsculpture and dense, fine punctures; baso- and apico-lateral angles rounded; lateral margin rounded; apical margin slightly concave. Elytra elongate oval, widest at middle, 1.4–1.5x longer than wide; disc without reticulate microsculpture but with dense, fine punctures, slightly convex, epipleurae near lateral margins, located 9/10 distance between suture and lateral margins, wide from base to basal 1/5, apically narrowed and abbreviated near apex; humeral calli prominent, with depression behind humeral calli. Penis ( Figs 55C–55E View FIGURE 55 ) wide, 5.6x longer than wide; parallel-sided, apex of dorsal surface bifurcate at apical 1/5; tectum weakly sclerotized, small and apically tapering; almost straight in lateral view, apex narrowly arrow rounded; ventral surface with broad but apically narrow notch at apex, apices narrowly rounded, subapical area membranous. Apical margin of abdominal ventrite V in female broadly rounded, sometimes slightly depressed at middle. Gonocoxe reduced. Ventrite VIII ( Fig. 55F View FIGURE 55 ) transverse, apical margin truncate, with dense, long and short setae along apical margin, lateral margin weakly sclerotized, spiculum extremely short. Receptacle of spermatheca ( Fig. 55G View FIGURE 55 ) as wide as pump, connected to pump; pump strongly curved, apically narrowed; proximal spermathecal duct slender and short.
Variation. One specimen from Sabah (East Malaysia) possesses black antennae with two yellow apical antennomeres. Some specimens possess the yellow prothorax, femora and abdomen which was described as O. violaceipennis ( Figs 54D–54F View FIGURE 54 ).
Diagnosis. Members of O. bowringii (Baly) and O. metallica Jacoby are easily recognized by their broadly oval, metallic blue elytra, but the former differs from the latter by the entirely metallic blue elytra (presence of yellow lateral margins on the elytra in O. metallica ). In males, the aedeagi of O. metallica possess a rounded apex, straight venter, and lack endophallic sclerites. Males of O. browringii possess a hooked apex, concave venter near apex, and one pair of elongate endophallic sclerites.
