Distribution. Widespread in Palaearctic and Afrotropical Regions.
Status in CZ. Recorded from both Bohemia and Moravia: Šlovice-Vysoká ( Olejníček 1973), Hradec Králové ( Mocek 1997), Bílina-Duchcov ( Olejníček & Barták 2000), Vráž ( Naglis et al. 2016); Lednice ( Vaňhara 1981), Valtice-Rendezvous ( Olejníček 1984), Lednice (Horní les) ( Olejníček 1998).
The record from Šlovice-Vysoká was based on two male specimens, currently deposited in the Olejníček collection in NMPC. They were examined during this study and re-identified as T. tarsalis and T. virescens , respectively. The occurrence in Vráž (southern Bohemia) is documented by a single male specimen (CZUP); all other specimens examined (CZUP, NMPC) were re-identified as T. tarsalis (listed below).
Ecology. Reared from Phragmites australis (Cavanilles) ( Waitzbauer et al. 1973) and Juncus ( Hering 1957) both of which are fairly common in Central European wetlands (including most, if not all, of the above listed localities). However, despite several attempts, none of the CZ specimens (MCH) were swept directly from these plants. On the other hand, most of the new records come from sites where Eleocharis or Schoenoplectus plants were also present, and specimens were often obtained by sweeps targeting these plants (vegetation with their stands/patches). These data seem to suggest that T. bellus larvae might develop in a wider range of monocotyledons.
