Distribution. Widespread in Europe (only known from Portugal in the Mediterranean region, Pollet et al. 2019) and Russia.
Status in CZ. The first CZ records of this species are presented herein.
Ecology. Most probably preferring Schoenoplectus plants, as all the above listed specimens were swept either directly from S. lacustris (Hradčany, Plzeň-Bolevec, Přestavlky) or from stands with abundant presence of this plant genus; widespread and in some places quite common in salt marshes of the Soos NNR, with S. tabernaemontani being the dominant species ( Figs 3, 4 View FIGURES 1–4 ).
Remarks. Thrypticus nigricauda was originally described from England (Herefordshire). Drake et al. (2023) noted some variation in the shape of the surstyli among the British specimens (having either slightly pointed or rather more rounded tip with tiny irregular teeth), and also differences from the surstylus figure in the redescription by Negrobov & Stackelberg (1972, fig. 291). The CZ specimens best match figure 9A in Drake et al. (2023) in having (lateral view) slender surstyli with moderately sinuous ventral margin and asymmetric, bluntly pointed apex. The hypopygial characters are rather uniform among the Czech specimens.
