Vernacular Names: Red-cheeked Rope Squirrel.

Distribution: Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Rio Muni, Bioko.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Waterhouse (1842 [1843]) renamed this species erythrogenys , "red-cheeked" in an attempt to replace the inappropriate name leucogenys , "white-cheeked". This is an unjustified emendation.
