2. Celmisia thomsonii Cheeseman (1916: 211) View in CoL .
Type:— NEW ZEALAND. South Island, Eyre Mts , Central Otago, in rocky-crevices on faces of cliffs, alt. 5,000–6,000 ft., W.A. Thomson & J . Speden s.n. (holotype AK 9976 !) .
Notes: — Cheeseman (1916) provided a complete description of the type specimen (locality, altitude, collectors), but did not indicate herbarium specimen. Allan (1961) provided the details of the herbarium specimen from the T.F. Cheeseman Herbarium at the Auckland Museum (AK 9976). Since no other unequivocal syntype is known, this specimen is the holotype.
Given (1975) lectotypified C. thomsonii based on the same specimen (AK 9976). Considering the argument above, his typification was not necessary. Given (1975) also mentioned possible duplicates at CHR (10321) and WELT (no number provided). The former specimen at CHR indicates only Thomson as a collector, and the latter at WELT has not been found.
