35. Celmisia macmahonii Kirk (1895: 327) View in CoL
[as C. macmahoni View in CoL , corrected here according to ICN Art. 60.8 ( Turland et al. 2018)].
Type:— NEW ZEALAND. South Island, Mt Stokes, 3.000 ft., Jan 1893, J. Macmahon s.n. (lectotype WELT SP3285! designated by Allan 1961: 628).
Notes:— Kirk (1895) mentioned P.A. Macmahon as the collector. However, the label of the lectotype selected by Allan (1961) at WELT (Kirk’s Herbarium) has the handwriting of Kirk that says “J. Macmahon, Jan. 1893 ”. See further comments on Celmisia hieraciifolia var. oblonga .
Four herbarium specimens ( AK 9963 !, 9964!, 9965!, 132216!) are labeled as syntypes, and the first three are from the Cheeseman Herbarium. Whether these can be treated as isolectotypes cannot be certainly known because they lack collection dates, and it is known that Macmahon visited Mt. Stokes several times and sent materials to Cheeseman after Kirk’s death ( Godley 1991) .
