Akodon (Akodon) mollis Thomas 1894 View in CoL
Akodon (Akodon) mollis Thomas 1894 View in CoL , Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., ser. 6, 14: 363.
Type Locality: Perú, Piura Dept., Tumbes.
Vernacular Names: Soft-furred Akodont.
Synonyms: Akodon (Akodon) altorum Thomas 1913 ; Akodon (Akodon) fulvescens Hershkovitz 1940 .
Distribution: Pacific lowlands and adjoining montane regions of N Ecuador to WC Perú.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Akodon , A. mollis species group. Extensive altitudinal range and substantial interpopulational differentiation suggest a composite of two or more species ( Patton and Smith, 1992; Smith and Patton, 1993; study of specimens in AMNH); status of highland form altorum as synonym questioned by Voss (2003). Also see remarks under A. fumeus , once included as a subspecies.
