Type Locality: Brazil, Bahia, Caravelas, Mangue do Caritoti (17 o 43’30"S, 39 o 15’35"W) GoogleMaps .

Vernacular Names: Rusty-sided Atlantic Tree-rat.

Distribution: E Brazil from the state of Paraibo to NE São Paulo, chiefly along the coast but occurring inland to 1000 m in rainforest.

Discussion: Karyotype has 2n=72 or 80; FN=112 or 114.
