Diagnosis. Tomarus similis can be recognized by the antennal club subequal in length to antennomeres 2–7; clypeus trapezoidal (base 2 times wider than apex); clypeal teeth widely separated and transverse; frontoclypeal tubercles transverse; pronotum with rounded tubercle and small fovea; pronotal punctation small and sparse; males with inner claw of the protarsi enlarged and bifid; protibia tridentate, without basal denticles; apex of metatibia dentate and with 6–7 spinules; parameres slender, sides nearly parallel ( Figs. 32–33 View FIGURES 31–34 ).
Locality records ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 31–34 ). 8 males and 3 females from HNHM and MEKRB . 4 specimens from CMNC. Cajamarca (2): Marabamba Alto. Huánuco (3): Aucayacu , Tingo María. Loreto (1): Sarayacu. San Martin (1): Tarapoto. Ucayali (1): Pucallpa. Imprecise data (6): Peru .
Temporal distribution. January (2), May (1), August (1), October (2), November (2). No data (7).
Distribution. Costa Rica to Brazil (Endr̂di 1985; López-García & Deloya 2018).
Natural history. The examined specimens were found between 125– 647 m.
