DAHLBOM (1854: 312) described Chrysis splendens based on two specimens from the Spinola Collection (Museo Regionale di Scienze Naturali in Turin) given as var. a and var. b. Nowadays a single specimen missing metasoma except tergite I, compound eyes, right antenna and one fore leg is housed in the collection. Therefore it is impossible to recognize the varietas, but we can confirm, that the specimen matches the original description and the current interpretation of the species. Bohart (In: KIMSEY & BOHART 1991: 465) designated a male lectotype of the Spinola Collection, but the only conserved specimen is without Bohart’s identification label. Therefore it is necessary to search for the missing second syntype in other collections.
