Remarks. This variation differs from typical specimens of P. ellopiae by characters given in the key above (couplet 15). Males are recognizable less easily than females as only coloration of hind tibia is found to work well for their separation, though small males of P. ellopiae var. sometimes have hind tibia paler, dirty dark reddish rather than reddish black. Pimpla ellopiae var. resembles the Costa Rican species P. hubendickae Gauld as both have reddish brown metasoma, predominantly black hind leg with dark red femur and sparsely punctate on smooth background tergites 2–5 in females, but differs from this species by its entirely black metapleuron and propodeum, and yellow marked mid leg.
