Megaselia qurigolensis View in CoL n. sp.

( Figs 57–69 View FIGURES 57–62 View FIGURES 63–69 )

Material examined. Holotype male, East Azerbaijan province, Qurigol region, 37°54.736’ N, 46°41.617’ E, 1928 m, wetland, 5.vii.2013, S. Khaghaninia (36, UCMZ—13-95) GoogleMaps . Paratype: 1 male, locality data as the holotype ( ICHMM) .

Description. Male. Whole fly as Fig. 57 View FIGURES 57–62 . Frons as Fig. 58 View FIGURES 57–62 , with very fine microsetae. Cheek with 4 bristles and jowl with 2 that are longer and more robust. Antennae, palps and proboscis as Fig. 59 View FIGURES 57–62 , the postpedicels lacking SPS vesicles. Thorax brown, with 3 notopleural bristles and no cleft in front of these, and mesopleuron a few small hairs ( Fig. 60 View FIGURES 57–62 ). Scutellum with an anterior pair of very small hairs and a posterior pair of bristles ( Fig. 61 View FIGURES 57–62 ). Abdominal tergites brown with small hairs only a little longer at rear of T6. Venter brownish gray, and with small hairs on segments 3–6. Hypopygium as Figs 62–65 View FIGURES 57–62 View FIGURES 63–69 , with the distinctive right hypandrial lobe as Fig. 65 View FIGURES 63–69 , the left lobe being broad and pale. Legs brown but more yellowish brown tarsi. Fore tarsus with posterodorsal hair palisade on segments 1–4 and 5 clearly longer than 4 ( Fig. 66 View FIGURES 63–69 ). Mid femur and tibia as Fig. 67 View FIGURES 63–69 , with the dorsal hair palisade of mid tibia extending about 0.6 times its length. Hind femur as Fig. 68 View FIGURES 63–69 . Hind tibia with about a dozen moderately differentiated posterodorsal hairs, without anterodorsals, and spinules of apical combs simple. Wings ( Fig. 69 View FIGURES 63–69 ) 1.5–2.0 mm long. Costal index 0.39. Costal ratios 4.45: 1.18: 1. Costal cilia (of section 3) 0.06 mm long. No hair at base of vein 3. Sc not reaching R1. Haltere brown.

Recognition. The modified mid femora characterizes a limited number of species, whose Palaearctic members are covered by Disney (2004) supplemented by Disney & Withers (2011). The Nearctic species are covered by Borgmeier (1964). An Anfrotropical species is covered by Disney (1982). In the key to Palaearctic species it runs to couplet 3 lead 2 M. epandquadriata Disney and the subsequently described M. deltofemoralis Disney runs to the same point but their hypopygia and mid femora are different. Likewise, the Nearctic species covered by Borgmeier; but the mid femur of the subsequently described M. pisanoi Hartop, Brown & Disney (2015) is similar, but different from, our species. However, its hypopygium is clearly different. The mid femur of the Afrotropical M. morani Disney is similar but its hypopygium is clearly different and its haltere is brown.

Etymology. Named after the region of the holotype.
