Pachyneura oculata Krivosheina et Mamaev 1972 View in CoL
Pachyneura oculata Krivosheina et Mamaev 1972 View in CoL : Nauchnye Doklady vysshey shkoly. Biological sciences, 11: 15. Typelocality: Ussuriyskiy [= Suputinskiy] zapovednik, Russia (Primorsky Krai).
Material. Pachyneura oculata is known only from the original description. According to the description ( Krivosheina & Mamaev 1972), the holotype and 19 paratypes are deposited in the dipterological collection of the Zoological Institution (Saint-Petersburg, Russia). Unfortunately, the type material is probably lost, since the first author has not found this material or any traces of it during the last 15 years.
Material. Russia: PARATYPES, Primorsky Krai, Ussuriysk region, Ussuriyskiy [= Suputinskiy] zapovednik, 39 specimens (males and females), 1967–1969 (N.P. Krivosheina and B.M. Mamaev leg.). Kept in collection of A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution, Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow, Russia).
Distribution. Pachyneura oculata is known only from the type locality (Suputinskiy Nature Reserve = modern Ussuri State Nature Reserve, south Primorye, Russia).
Biology. Larvae develop in relatively dry and barkless xylem decayed by the polypore fungus Fomes fomentarius (decomposing the lignin and causing so called white rot). Larvae may inhabit standing and lying trees or stumps of elm ( Ulmus sp.) and Amur maakia ( Maackia sp.) (Mamaev 1972; Krivosheina 1991). The larvae may occur in large colonies, inhabiting the whole tree surface, but concentrating on the peripheral parts of the trees. Pupation takes place on the tree, near the surface. Larvae overwinter and pupae appear in early May, adults are on the wing in mid-May (Krivosheina 1972).
