Description. Largest specimen complete with 37 chaetigers, 5.8 mm long and 0.5 mm wide. Prostomium subrectangular when pharynx not everted, becoming subpentagonal when pharynx everted.Anterior margin convex, posterior margin “U” shaped. Antennae (0.06 mm) and palps (0.05 mm) long, digitiform with swollen tips ( Fig. 5A View FIGURE 5 ). Palps inserted at ventro-lateral margin of prostomium. Two pairs of coalesced eyespots present between chaetiger 2 and 3. Nuchal organs conspicuous, rounded. Pharynx everted with 18 bifid terminal papillae separated with a dorsal and ventral simple papilla; subdistal region with 20 rows of 9–10 subterminal papillae (first 4–5 papillae long and conical, decrease in size towards base of pharynx), extending over 2/3 length of pharynx ( Fig. 5A View FIGURE 5 ), proximal part of pharynx smooth. Middorsal and midventral papillae absent. Jaws light brown, triangular shaped with unequal branches, situated on anterio-lateral margin of pharynx, visible through body wall, without dissection ( Fig. 5B View FIGURE 5 ). Parapodia of first chaetiger slightly smaller than subsequent ones, directed anteriorly, parallel to prostomium. Dorsal cirri very small, ventral cirri (0.02 mm) digitiform with swollen tips and smaller than antennae and palps. Parapodial pre- and postchaetal lamellae rudimentary along the body ( Fig. 2D View FIGURE 2 ). Interramal space smooth, without ciliated patches. Dorsal cirri well developed from chaetiger 2, spherical on first 13–20 anterior chaetigers, becoming pear-shaped (with bulbous base and tapered to tip) towards to the posterior end ( Fig. 5C View FIGURE 5 ). Ventral cirri subsphaerical in whole body after first chaetiger. Acicular lobes conical in anterior region, almost acutely pointed on middle and posterior chaetigers.
Five types of chaetae present in parapodia; capillary chaetae, dentate chaetae, barred chaetae, spinulated chaetae and lyrate chaetae. Dentate chaetae present only in notopodia of chaetiger 1, numbering 3–4 (100 µm) ( Fig. 5E View FIGURE 5 ). Capillary chaetae present only on neuropodia of chaetiger 1, numbering 6-7. Barred chaetae (130 µm) placed on preacicular area of noto- and neuropodia, first appearing on chaetiger 2, present in all remaining parapodia, numbering 3–7 ( Fig. 5G View FIGURE 5 ). Finely spinulated chaetae (250 µm) placed on postacicular area of noto- and neuropodia, first appearing on chaetiger 2, present in all remaining parapodia ( Fig. 5H View FIGURE 5 ). Lyrate chaeta with unequal branches placed on postacicular area of noto- and neuropodia, first appearing on chaetiger 3, present in all remaining parapodia, except for the 3–4 chaetiger, numbering one in each ramus ( Fig. 5F View FIGURE 5 ).
Acicula light brown with a straight tip in anterior and middle parapodia, having curved tip in posterior parapodia, numbering one in per ramus.
Pygidium rounded with one digitiform anal cirrus placed dorsally, as long as last 2–3 chaetigers.
Remarks. The Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea specimens of Micronephthys longicornis matches the original description and redescriptions.
Distribution. Adriatic Sea ( Augener 1932), Mediterranean Sea ( Banse 1959; San Martin 1982; Laborda 2004; Ravara et al. 2010), Black Sea ( Perejaslavtseva 1891; Kurt-Şahin & Çinar 2012; Çinar et al. 2014; Kuş & Kurt- Şahin 2016; Kurt-Şahin et al. 2017a, b; Dnestrovskaya & Jirkov 2019).
Habitat. It was found in muddy and sandy bottom, up to 72 m depth in the present study. It was found in soft substratum at shallower depths (3.6– 7 m) in the Mediterranean Sea ( San Martin 1982; Laborda 2004), and up to 47.4 m in the Black Sea ( Kurt-Şahin et al. 2017a, b; Dnestrovskaya & Jirkov 2019). It was also reported in beds of the brown alga Cystoseira crinita Duby, 1830 from the Sinop Peninsula ( Kuş & Kurt-Şahin, 2016).
