Onycholyda esakii ( Takeuchi, 1930)
Japanese name: Esaki-hirata-habachi
( Fig. 2D, E View Fig )
Distribution. Japan (Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu).
New record from Tottori Prefecture (see Remarks below).
Host plant. Rosaceae : Rubus crataegifolius Bunge ( Shinohara and Kojima, 2009), R. peltatus Maxim. (new record; see Remarks below).
Remarks. Shinohara and Kojima (2009) reported on the bionomics of this sawfly. On September 2, 2023, Shinohara found two leaf-rolls of pamphiliid larvae on a leaf of R. peltatus ( Fig. 2D, E View Fig ) in Kagamiganaru, Tottori Prefecture. The leaf-rolls contained one larva each, and the larvae were identified as O. esakii when they matured on September 7. The mature larvae were well characterized by the head black and the prothoracic shields and the last abdominal segment without black areas and perfectly agreed with O. esakii as described by Shinohara and Kojima (2009). This observation represents the first distribution record of O. esakii from Tottori Prefecture and the first host plant record of R. peltatus for the species.
