scientific name

Acineta tuberosa Ehrenberg, 1833
status

Acineta tuberosa Ehrenberg, 1833

The body is inverted pyramid-shaped and has two actinophores with six tentacles in each fascicle; the stalk is rigid with a prominent basal disc; the macronucleus is spherical, and it is situated in the central part of the body; there is a single contractile vacuole located above the macronucleus.

Known previous records. Acineta tuberosa has been recorded as an epibiont of several crustacean groups. Has been reported on Cambarellus (Cambarellus) zempoalensis Villalobos, 1943 (cited as Cambarellus montezumae zempoalensis ) ( Cambaridae ) in Lake Zempoala, Morelos, Mexico ( López-Ochoterena & Ochoa-Gasca 1971), in the crayfish Cambarellus (Cambarellus) patzcuarensis Villalobos, 1943 (cited as Cambarellus patzcuarensis ) ( Cambaridae ) in Lake Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, Mexico ( Mayén-Estrada & Aladro-Lubel 1998), on the shrimps Penaeus aztecus Ives, 1891 (cited as Farfantepenaeus aztecus ) (Vidal-Martínez et al. 2002), and P. duorarum Burkenroad, 1939 (cited as Farfantepenaeus duorarum ) in Celestún and Sisal, Yucatán, Mexico (Vidal-Martínez et al. 2002; López-Téllez et al. 2009).

It has also been recorded on Gammarus locusta (Linnaeus, 1758) , G. pulex (Linnaeus, 1758) , Gammarus sp., Corophium sp., Asellus sp., Idotea balthica (Pallas, 1772) , Idotea sp., Microcerberus remyi Chappuis, 1953 , Microcerberus sp., Pontastacus leptodactylus (Eschscholtz, 1823) (cited as Astacus leptodactylus ), and on Crangon sp. ( Matthes & Guhl 1973; Curds 1985a; Fernandez-Leborans & Tato-Porto 2000). Dovgal (2013) reported this suctorian on Cercopagis pengoi (Ostroumov, 1891) , Gammarus sp., Diogenes pugilator (Roux, 1829) , Pontastacus leptodactylus (cited as Astacus leptodactylus ), Brachynotus sexdentatus (Risso, 1827) , Idotea balthica and on Palaemon elegans Rathke, 1837 .
