Gerris argentatus Schummel , 14832: 49 (as new species); Gerris apicalis Curtis, 1835: 553 .
Distribution in Iran. Kermanshah (Sakenin et al. 2010; Samin et al. 2011), Iran (no locality cited) (Linnavuori & Hosseini 2000).
General distribution. Euro-Siberian (Andersen 1995; Fent et al. 2011).

General distribution. Caucasus and Iran.
Comments. Linnavuori (1994) reported G. kiritshenkoi from Iraq, but that record belongs to Gerris kabaishanus Linnavuori, 1998 (see Fent et al. 2011).
Gerris (Gerris) costae fieberi Stichel, 1938
Gerris costae var. fieberi Stichel, 1938: 464 (as new variety); Gerris costae fieberi Wagner & Zimmermann, 1955: 184 .
Distribution in Iran. Ardabil (Linnavuori & Hosseini 2000), East Azarbaijan (Ghahari et al. 2010a), Fars (Ostovan & Arefnia 2011; Linnavuori 2009), Guilan (Sakenin et al. 2011 as G. (Gerris) costae costae (Herrich- Schäffer, 1850)), Isfahan (Wagner 1961), Kermanshah (Sakenin et al. 2010; Samin et al. 2011), Khorasan (Linnavuori & Modarrres Awal 1998 as Gerris costae ; Modarres Awal 2008), Kuhgiloyeh & Boyerahmad (Linnavuori 2009), Markazi (Vafaei 2005), Sistan & Baluchestan, Tehran (Hoberlandt 1955; Kiritshenko 1966).
General distribution. Ponto-north-Mediterranean extending to Central Asia.
Comments. Linnavuori & Modarrres Awal (1998), Sakenin et al. (2010), and Samin et al. (2011) cited G. (Gerris) costae (Herrich-Schäffer, 1850) without a subspecific name, so these records more likely concern G. (Gerris) costae fieberi Stichel, 1938 , a well known subspecies in Iran. Additionally, upon the checking of specimens, the record of G. (Gerris) costae costae from Guilan by Sakenin et al. (2011) is referred to G. (Gerris) costae fieberi . Distribution of G. (Gerris) costae costae (Herrich-Schäffer, 1850) is restricted to Europe including Switzerland, France (south east), Italy, Germany, Austria, and Slovenia (Andersen 1995; Fent et al. 2011).
Gerris (Gerris) gibbifer Schummel, 1832
Gerris gibbifer Schummel, 1832: 41 (as new species); Gerris gibbifer var. flaviventris Puton, 1879: 157 ; Gerris gibbifer var. fuscicornis Rey, 1893: 121 .
Distribution in Iran. Kermanshah (Sakenin et al. 2010; Samin et al. 2011).
General distribution. Euro-Mediterranean, quoted in Israel (Andersen 1995; Fent et al. 2011).
Gerris (Gerris) lacustris (Linnaeus, 1758)
Cimex lacustris Linnaeus, 1758: 450 (as new species); Cimex najas var. inermis Retzius, 1783: 89 ; Gerris variabilis Curtis, 1835: 553 ; Hydrometra servillei Frey-Gessner, 1864: 228 ; Gerris brevirostris Bergroth, 1893: 209 .
Distribution in Iran. East Azarbaijan (Nikdel et al. 2011, Sakenin et al. 2011 as G. lacustris latiabdominalis (Miyamoto 1958) , Guilan (Kiritshenko 1930; Cox & Cox 1995), Kordestan (Sakenin et al. 2010; Samin et al. 2011), Markazi (Vafaei 2005), Yazd ( China 1938), northern Iran (no locality cited) (Sakenin et al. 2009), Iran (no locality cited) (Linnavuori & Hosseini 2000; Nikdel et al. 2011).
General distribution. Palearctic (Andersen 1995; Fent et al. 2011).
Comments. Gerris lacustris latiabdominalis (Miyamoto, 1958) has erroneously been cited from Iran; this species is a Far Eastern taxon known from China, Japan, Korea, Russian Far East, and Taiwan. Puschnig (1925) described several color variations without any taxonomic value.

General distribution. European, extending to Middle East, Middle Asia, and North Africa (Andersen 1995; Fent et al. 2011).
Comments. Hydrometra abbreviata is a 5th instar of Gerris thoracicus , but this name is a nomen oblitum and thus unavailable (J.T. Polhemus in Andersen 1995). Some varieties of no systematic value have been described: fuscinotum Reuter; 1880; rapidus Horváth, 1914; reymondi Poisson, 1950.
