Distribution: Sri Lanka; India, north to Bombay and Rajastan, S Bihar; Burma, Thailand; S China, including Hainan and Taiwan.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Formerly included in petaurista ; but see Corbet and Hill (1992), who reviewed the species. Subspecies listed are those recognized by Corbet and Hill (1992), who note that further work is needed on the geographic variation of this species.
