Type Locality: "Big Cottonwood Meadows,... just south of Mount Whitney, altitude 3,050 meters or 10,000 feet " [Tulare Co., California, USA].
Vernacular Names: Alpine Chipmunk.
Distribution: Alpine zone in Sierra Nevada, from Tuolumne to Tulare Counties ( EC California, USA).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Neotamias . Reviewed by Clawson et al. (1994 a, Mammalian Species No. 461).
