Menippus murzini , new species

( Figs 15 View FIGURES 9 – 17 , 24 View FIGURES 18 – 25 , 31 View FIGURES 26 – 32 , 39 View FIGURES 33 – 41 )

Male. Length 10.9–12.3 mm. Color: brown; antenna blackish-brown, antennomeres I–III ventrally pale, antennomeres IX–XI basally pale; tibia and tarsus black. Sculpture: head, pronotum and elytra with small, extremely dense punctures. Antenna very short, reaching humerus, all antennomeres elongate, relative length of antennomeres II–XI about 1.0: 1.5: 2.0: 1.7: 1.7: 1.7: 1.7: 1.6: 1.4: 1.9. Pronotum widest at apical 1/3, gradually narrowed towards base; pronotal disc with a pair of circular depressions, with shallow depression medially, and transverse depression along hind margin laterally; hind margin slightly medially and laterally concave. Prosternal process reduced to a sharp keel between coxae, parallel-sided from base to apex; procoxal cavities closed, long thin hypomeral lobes reaching apex of posternal process. Elytra elongate, about 1.5X longer than wide, dorso-ventrally convex. Apex of last ventrite with a deep concave excision. Penis slender and weakly curved in lateral view, apically constricted ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 9 – 17 a); in dorsal view laterally parallel, subapically tapering; gonopore directed laterally ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 9 – 17 b). Apex of endophallic sclerite with prominent teeth along apical margin ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 9 – 17 b).

Female. Length 11.2 mm. Similar to male. Apex of last ventrite truncate. Sternite VIII ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 18 – 25 ) well sclerotized, apex slightly concave at middle, with dense extremely long setae along apical margin, spiculum long. Spermathecal receptaculum ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 26 – 32 ) strongly swollen, strongly narrowed between receptaculum and pump, pump narrow and curved, relatively longer, receptaculum laterally connected with pump; spermathecal duct truncate. Gonocoxae separated, extremely reduced, apical margin rounded, without setae ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 33 – 41 ).

Diagnosis. This species can be separated from other members of Menippus dimidiaticornis group by the black tibia and the convex elytra.
