Etymology: Ŋe generic epithet ‘ Diandong ’, the Chinese Pingyin for the eastern Yunnan, and the Greek suffix ‘ΙΧΘύς’, ichthys, fish.
Type species: Diandongichthys ocellatus sp. nov..
Geographical distribution and age: Luoping, Yunnan, China; Pelsonian, Anisian, Middle Triassic.
