Type Locality: " Guadalupe Mts" [Culberson Co., Texas, USA]. Restricted by A. H. Howell (1929:101) to head of Dog Canyon, 7,000 ft [2,130 m].

Vernacular Names: Gray-footed Chipmunk.

Subspecies: :

Subspecies Tamias (Neotamias) canipes subsp. canipes V. Bailey 1902

Subspecies Tamias (Neotamias) canipes subsp. sacramentoensis Flaherty 1960

Distribution: Mountains of SE New Mexico and W Texas ( USA).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).

Discussion: Subgenus Neotamias . Elevated from subspecies of cinereicollis by Fleharty (1960). Reviewed by Findley et al. (1975:103-112), and by Best et al. (1992, Mammalian Species No. 411).
