Paratypes: 1 ♂ (dissected; left elytron missing), 1 ♀: same data as the holotype (1 ♂: cSh; 1 ♀: NMPC); 1 ♂ (dissected): ‘Alam Kuh | Elbourz 3700 m’ <handwritten>, ‘N[orth]. Redescription. Measurements (n=5): HW: 0.71–0.77; HL: 0.47–0.57; OL: 0.16–0.20; TL: 0.12–0.16; AL (holotype): 2.39; PL: 0.62–0.73; PWmax: 0.77–0.90; PWmin: 0.53–0.70; ESL: 1.15–1.30; EW: 1.25–1.61; MTbL (holotype): 0.95; MTrL (holotype): 0.50 (MTrL 1–4: 0.25; MTrL 5: 0.25); AW: 1.22–1.60; AedL: 0.74–0.82; BL: 3.90–5.10 (holotype: 4.45).
Habitus as in Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1–6 . Body reddish-brown, with slightly darker head and abdomen and slightly paler middle and apical portions of elytra; mouthparts, antennae and legs yellow-brown. Forebody without microsculpture, except neck with coarse isodiametric microreticulation, medioapical part of pronotum with fine transverse microreticulation (one paratype without pronotal meshes), and scutellum with fine isodiametric microsculpture.
Head 1.3–1.5 times as broad as long, with distinctly elevated middle portion and moderately deep, somewhat elongate or transverse anterio-median depression, narrowed and extended basad toward level of anterior margins of eyes; interocellar depression narrow and moderately deep. Ocelli very small, indistinct in holotype and two paratypes; distance between ocelli very short, about twice shorter than distance between ocellus and posterior margin of eye. Punctation moderately fine, denser in middle. Mediobasal portion between ocelli with irregular fine transverse elevations or without them. Antenna reaching apical third of elytra when reclined; antennomere 4 slightly shorter than 3, 5–7 indistinctly broader and slightly longer than 4, 8–10 slightly broader than 7, apical antennomere about as long as two preceding segments, without constriction in basal portion.
Pronotum 1.2 times as broad as long, from widest anterior third sharply narrowed toward obtuse hind angles; laterobasal margins elongate, subparallel; mediobasal depression distinct, moderately deep, oval or transverse; anterior and posterior margins slightly concave in middle. Punctation regular, distinctly larger than that on head, slightly sparser in middle, with interspaces between punctures in middle about as long as diameter of 2–3 nearest punctures.
Elytra 1.1–1.2 times as broad as long, 1.7–1.8 times as long as pronotum. Punctation about as that on elytra, slightly finer and sparser in middle.
Abdomen narrower than elytra, with two large and transverse tomentose spots in middle of abdominal tergite IV.
Male. Apical margin of abdominal tergite VIII rounded. Apical margin of abdominal sternite VIII widely concave. Aedeagus with wide basal part, gradually narrowed toward wide median lobe; apical portion of median lobe moderately strongly narrowed toward widely rounded apex; parameres narrow, slightly broadened apically, distinctly reaching apex of median lobe, with two moderately long apical and two preapical setae; parameral surface of median lobe distinctly elevated, with narrow and long sclerotized lateral edges curved in preapical portion of median lobe; internal sac narrow and moderately short, with moderately short, narrow flagellum ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 16–23 ). Female. Apical margins of abdominal tergite VIII and sternite VIII rounded.
Comparative notes. Based on the coloration of the body, the shape of the pronotum with elongate and slightly concave laterobasal margins, and the moderately narrow median lobe, G. alborzensis sp. n. is more similar to the widespread G. brevicollis , from which can be distinguished by the longer elytra, indistinct ocelli, the shape of the broader preapical part of the median lobe, and details of the morphology of the internal sac.
Distribution. The new species is known from three localities in Alborz Mts., northern Iran ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE 15 ).
Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the name of the mountain range where the type specimens were collected.
Bionomics. Specimens were collected at elevations from 2545 to 3700 m a.s.l. The detailed bionomic data are unknown. Specimens from Alam Kuh (3500 m) were collected together with G. lobanovi Shavrin, 2021 (see Shavrin 2021a).
