Simulium View in CoL View at ENA sp. C
Simulium View in CoL sp. C, Phasuk et al., 2005: 52 View Cited Treatment , 53, 58–59 (larva, chromosomes) Simulium View in CoL sp. C, Phasuk, 2006: 114 –116, 178 (larva, chromosomes)
The larva of this cytoform was described chromosomally and morphologically by Phasuk et al. (2005) and Phasuk (2006) from seven specimens collected in Khao Yai National Park. We have not seen actual material of this cytoform, but suggest that it belongs to the S. ceylonicum View in CoL group based on the following characters, which are similar to those of other Thai members of this group: shape of the postgenal cleft; absence of abdominal setae; and number of hypostomal bristles, primary rays in the labral fan, and hooklet rows in the posterior circlet. A photograph of the overall complement of the polytene chromosomes presented by Phasuk (2006) does not permit a band-by-band comparison with our standard map. However, the following sections on our standard map apparently agree with the sequence of Simulium View in CoL sp. C: 14–19 (IS), 20–26 and 37–40 ( IL), 54–57 and 64–71 (IIL), 72–76 (IIIS), and 97C–100 (IIIL). The IIS sequence is unique among our cytoforms and serves as an identification aid. The positions of the ring of Balbiani and double bubble of S. sp. C resemble those of S. nr. asakoae View in CoL 4 but are closer to the centromere than in the latter cytoform.
