Diagnosis. C. riedeli is the only species with uniformly yellow pronotum and elytra except for an inconspicuous dark patch in the middle of the pronotum and the infuscate area of elytra at the scutellum ( Figs. 31 View FIGURES 6 – 32 , 48 View FIGURES 33 – 52 ). This species has a relatively slender, parallel-sided phallus ( Figs. 75–76 View FIGURES 53 – 78 ) and extremely long male antennal lamellae ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 6 – 32 ).
Description. Male. Body large-sized, 15.1 mm long, dark brown to black, pronotum and elytra except very small dark patch at scutellum brightly yellow ( Figs. 31 View FIGURES 6 – 32 , 48 View FIGURES 33 – 52 ). Head small, with small, hemispherically prominent eyes, frontal interocular distance 2.0 times maximum diameter; antennae flabellate, long, reaching to three quarters of elytral length if inclined, antennomere 3 with lamella 3.9 times longer than stem of antennomere, lamella attached close to middle part of antennomere ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 6 – 32 ). Pronotum transverse, 1.5 times wider than long at midline, lateral margins elevated, frontal margin projected anteriorly, frontal angles widely rounded, lateral margins slightly concave, posterior angles projected, all carinae well-developed ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 6 – 32 ). Elytra flat, parallel-sided, transverse costae well-developed, regular, elytral areoles slightly transverse ( Fig. 48 View FIGURES 33 – 52 ). Phallus slender, parallel-sided, with gradually acuminate apical part and projected slender apex ( Figs. 75–76 View FIGURES 53 – 78 ).
Measurements. BL 15.1 mm, PL 1.66 mm, PW 2.48 mm, WH 1.56 mm, Edist 0.95 mm, Ediam 0.48 mm, LE 13.0 mm, antennomere 3: stem 0.85 mm, lamella 3.3 mm.
Distribution. Eastern New Guinea, the southern slopes of the Owen Stanley Range ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 3. 1 – 2 ). Etymology. The species name is a patronym in honor of Alexander Riedel (Karlsruhe), a specialist in weevils.
