Uromys (Cyromys) porculus Thomas 1904 View in CoL
Uromys (Cyromys) porculus Thomas 1904 View in CoL , Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., ser. 7, 14: 400.
Type Locality: Solomon Isls, Guadalcanal Isl, Aola.
Vernacular Names: Guadalcanal Uromys.
Distribution: Endemic to Guadalcanal Isl.
Conservation: IUCN – Extinct. Probably extinct (see Flannery, 1995 b).
Discussion: Subgenus Cyromys . Although originally described as a species of Uromys , it was transferred to Melomys ( Ellerman, 1941; Rümmler, 1938), placed once more in Uromys ( Tate, 1951) , again put in Melomys ( Laurie and Hill, 1954) , and currently returned to Uromys ( Flannery and Wickler, 1990; Groves and Flannery, 1994). Still known only by the holotype. Morphologically closely related to U. rex and U. imperator . Reviewed by Flannery (1995 b).
