Remark. The species was erroneously reported for Malay Peninsula as ‘ Lyclene lutara Moore, 1859 ’ by Bucsek (2012). Miltochrista lutara (illustrated by Volynkin (2017)) is distributed in Sumatra and Java Islands and has very different genitalia structures.
Diagnosis. Forewing length is 7.5–10 mm (wingspan 18–20.5 mm) in males and 10–11 mm (wingspan 20.5– 21.5 mm) in females. The new species is similar externally to M. adelfika sp. n., but the male differs by its more elongate discal spot of forewing situated more distally. The female of M. lavides sp. n. differs from that of M. adelfika sp. n. by its less elongate forewing with more arcuate anal margin, the discal spot situated more distally and the narrower subterminal area. In the male genital capsule, the valva structure is most similar to that of M. kosterini , but the costa is much more curved and broadened subapically, its tip is narrow, pointed and directed dorsally (whereas in M. kosterini that is broader, apically rounded and directed distally), the sacculus is broader, its distal process is rounded apically (in M. kosterini that is apically pointed), and the distal membranous lobe of valva is absent. Compared to that of M. kosterini , aedeagus of M. lavides sp. n. is more tapered, the aedeagus vesica of the new species is narrower, bears a bunch of three robust spine-like cornuti (whereas in M. kosterini there are four larger arrowhead-like cornuti), its subbasal ventral diverticulum is narrower but more elongated, its medial diverticulum is much narrower and more weakly granulated, and the vesica ejaculatorius is narrower. The female genitalia of M. lavides sp. n. differ from those of M. kosterini by their much smaller accessory bursae bearing a broader cluster of spinules at cervix bursae, much narrower posterior section of corpus bursae, and much smaller anterior section of corpus bursae bearing smaller spinules.
Distribution. The new species is widespread in South Myanmar (Tanintharyi Region), South and Southeast Thailand (Ranong and Chantaburi Provinces), South Laos (Champasak Province), Vietnam (Vĩnh Phúc and Lâm Đồng Provinces) and Malaysia (Malay Peninsula: Pahang and Selangor States) ( Bucsek 2012, as lutara ).
Etymology. In Greek, the word ‘λαβίδες’ means ‘tongs’. The specific epithet refers to the new species’ valvae shape, which makes the genital capsule similar to cooking tongs.
