Genus Brachymyrmex Mayr View in CoL

The name B. depilis Emery is provisionally attached to the single species of Brachymyrmex that occurs in California. It is widespread but infrequently encountered, in part because of its small size and inconspicuous foraging behavior. This is a groundnesting species, recorded in California from sea level to ~ 1900m. References: Creighton (1950a), Page (1982), Smith (1979), Wheeler and Wheeler (1986g), Yensen et al. (1980).
