1. LYCOPODIELLA Holub, Preslia View in CoL 36: 20, 22. 1964. Type: Lycopodiella inundata (L.) Holub, Preslia 36: 21. 1964.

Plants with prostrate, rooting, indeterminate, usually isophyllous, horizontally branching shoots, and dorsally arising, erect, simple strobiliferous branches. Sporophylls subpeltate, with a median basiscopic wing, of the same colour and texture, linear-lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, with few to several sharp, long and often recurved teeth. Sporangia axillary, strongly anisovalvate, the epidermal cells with thin, straight, non-lignified sidewalls, but with lignified, semiannular thickenings. Spores rugate. Gametophytes green, tuberous and lobed on the upper side, surface-living, with mycorrhiza in the base.

Northern temperate regions and Tropical America, south to northern Argentina. About 12 species in the Americas, 1 in the Guianas.
