Type species: Squatirhina numidica Arambourg, 1952 .
Etymology: Metlaoui, southern Tunisia, the type locality; in combination with the prefix eos (Greek, dawn), in reference to the Eocene epoch.
Distribution.—Metlaoui, southern Tunisia; and Ouled Abdoun Basin, Morocco; Ypresian (early Eocene).
