Type Locality: Ethiopia, eastern slope of Abyssynia. "Der östliche Abhang Abyssiniens, wo es häufig vorkommmt." Probably Massawa, according to Mertens (1925:26) "...wahrsheinlich Massaua".

Vernacular Names: Unstriped Ground Squirrel.
