Distribution. Italy: cave of Bigonda near v. Grigno, Trentino (type locality!; present study); cave S. Giovanni d’Antro, 3 km N of San Pietro al Natisone (type locality of subsp. fimbriatus!); cave Bus de la Genziana (Altopiano del Cansiglio) near Vittorio Veneto (type locality of subsp. gentianae!; present sudy); caves Buse Longhe, Vecchia Diga, La Siviledo in the region of Friuli (present study); Montreale Valcellina, Inghiottitotio Val di Pai (present study).

Remarks. Manfredi (1953) placed her newly described species in the then monotypic subgenus Stygiiulus Verhoeff , emphasizing the similarity between T. ausugi and the type species— T. illyricus . This is one of the few Typhloiulus species in which the mouthparts are modified for a presumed semiaquatic lifestyle, the others being T. edentulus and T. serbani ( Enghoff 1985) .
