Genus ASTEROLECANIUM Targioni Tozzetti
Asterolecanium Targioni Tozzetti, 1868: 734 . Type species: Coccus aureus Boisduval by monotypy.
Diagnostic characters of the adult female: Slide-mounted, body with 8-shaped pores forming a single marginal row, each pore at least twice as long as diameter of a marginal quinquelocular disc-pore. Anal ring with pores and 4 or 6 setae, situated at base of an expanded tube or a long tube with parallel sides. Dorsal 8-shaped pores normally present. Submedian dorsal tubes absent from near apex of abdomen.
Comments: Worldwide, 59 species are included in Asterolecanium ( García Morales et al. 2016) ; only A. bornmuelleri has been recorded from Iran ( Rübsaamen 1902).
