Genus PHOENICOCOCCUS Cockerell View in CoL View at ENA
Phoenicococcus Cockerell, 1899b: 262 View in CoL . Type species: Phoenicococcus marlatti Cockerell View in CoL by monotypy and original designation. Kermicoides Tang, 1977: 24 .
Diagnostic characters of the adult female: In life, body of adult female small and subspherical. In slide-mounted specimens, derm more-or-less sclerotized and covered in low, rounded dermal papillae. Antennae each 1 segmented, with apex bearing 5 short spines (some too small to be shown in Fig. 86 View FIGURE 86 ). Legs absent or highly reduced. Spiracles each with an elongate bar without any associated sclerotized area, and a loose cluster of 12‒15 quinquelocular disc pores around opening. Anal ring situated ventrally, posterior to vulva, small, simple and heavily sclerotized, bearing posteriormost 2 setae (which appear to be on anterior of ring). Long tubular ducts (sometimes called 8-shaped tubular ducts), each with a longitudinal internal division that makes cross section of inner end appear bilocular, mostly scattered along dorsal submargin and margin, and ventrally.
Comments: The genus Phoenicococcus contains a single species, Phoenicococcus marlatti Cockerell , which occurs in Iran.
