4. Sesleria sphaerocephala Arduino (1764: 20) View in CoL
Lectotype (designated here):―[Icon] t. 7 in Arduino (1764, image available at http://bibdigital.rjb.csic.es/ing/Libro.php?Libro=4173). Epytype (designated here):― ITALY. Bolzano, Alpes Dolomitas, entre Forcella Sassolungo y Passo Sella, QS1054, 2200–2680 m, entre calizas dolomíticas, 21 July 1990, Giráldez et al. s.n. (MA-487647!). Fig 4.
Notes:— Arduino (1764: 21‒22) described Sesleria sphaerocephala through a detailed diagnosis and he provided an illustration (“Tab. 7”) which is part of the original material for that name. This author also pointed out that his S. sphaerocephala is different from the plant Scheuchzer (1708: 18) described as “ Gramen alpinum enode spica parva subrotunda ferruginea ”. Since no specimens were considered as original material, we traced that Arduino’s image appears to be the only element eligible as lectotype. As interpretive specimen, we here designate an epitype preserved at MA.
