Gelanes simillimus Horstmann, 1981: 39 . Type: female, Sweden, TD: AEIC.
Diagnosis. Frons very finely granulate, dull, impunctate. Flagellum with about 18 flagellomeres, second flagellomere usually smaller than flagellomeres 1 and 3. Mesopleuron smooth, impunctate. Foveate groove of mesopleuron weak, usually as more densely granulate (sometimes slightly wrinkled) area. Basal area wide, about 1.5 times as long as broad (Fig. 12). First tergite with petiole smooth dorsally. Thyridial depression transverse ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 39 – 44 ). Ovipositor with deep and narrow dorsal subapical notch, with apex more or less straight dorsally and stepped ventrally (Fig. 17), sheath 2.0–2.5 times as long as first tergite.

Distribution. South Korea (new record), Transpalaearctic species: almost entire Europe, southern Siberia, south of Far East of Russia.
Biology. Flight period from April to June. Reared from Xyela julii (Brebisson) (Xyelidae) on Pinus sylvestris Linnaeus (Pinaceae) in Austria, collected from Pinus halepensis Mill. in Croatia (Khalaim & Blank 2011).
