This species was first collected by P. S. Pallas in Altai (Mount Imaus) in the late 18 th century. However, it was first described in 1825 by the German botanist Kurt Sprengel ( Ivashchenko and Belyalov 2019). In the past, this species was recorded only in the Bektauata Mountain, Eastern Upland of Kazakhstan ( Ivashchenko and Belyalov 2019; Kupriyanov 2020). In this study, however, a new location was found in the Kokshetau Mountains (Karamysheva s. n. LE), Western Upland of Kazakhstan, which significantly extended its distribution range.
