Justicia aquatica Benoist (1946: 141)

Type (Lectotype designated here):— Madagascar, Nossi-be, June 1847, Boivin 2104 ( P 00089574, isolectotypes P 00089575, P 00089576). Fig. 3.

Notes:— Justicia aquatica was described by Benoist (1946) based on the specimens collected from Nossibe of Madagascar. In the protologue, three collections (Boivin 2104, Boivin 2102 and Hildebrandt 3303 b) were mentioned, but no type was designated. Thus they are syntypes according to Art. 9.5 of the ICN ( McNeill et al., 2012). While searching for these specimens in different herbaria, nine sheets were found, eight at P ( P 00466130, P 00089576, P 00466132, P 00466133, P 00089575, P 00466129, P 00089574, P 00466131) and one at K ( K 000419217). Among these, six sheets were collected by Boivin and the remaining three belong to Hildebrandt collection. Amongst Boivin’s specimens three sheets have the collection number 2104, one have the collection number 2102 and two sheets have no collection number. Of these, only one sheets of Boivin 2104 ( P 00089574) bears an additional label with brief description in Benoist’s own handwriting. This also matches well with the description provided in the protologue. Therefore, P 00089574 is designated here as lectotype according to Art. 9.2, 9.11 & 9.12 of the ICN ( McNeill et al., 2012).
